This is a piece of Ambrosia Maple. 6 x 12 Shellac sealer and several coats of WOP and buffed. Popcorn bowls seem to have a pretty good market around here. Usually cut out the pith, but this particular tree hasn't shown that it wants to split/crack all that much. Thanks for looking.

That's a beauty, Dan! Great bowl, great wood and I can already smell the popcorn. Now I'm going to have to make some... popcorn that is, not bowls!

I like the color and the band at the rim.
I alway like a band or at least several beads at the rim, IMO it dresses up the bowl!

That's pretty! I like the band and the little out turn at the rim... Both features make it easier to hang on to when you're carrying it around.

Nice job on the bowl, and what great color in that wood! In one of the shots it looks just like a dripping wash......

Dan, wonderfully done, and the rim is a nice feature, too. I am surprised the end grain turning didn't produce some cracking - worked out very well as it produced some nice character to this one.

The wood is beautiful, and I could easily be wrong on this, but I think the coloration is from some other source other than the Ambrosia beetle. There is no evidence of the holes and the typical streaking usually found in Ambrosia maple - as in this pic.

Very nice, I had to look twice to see that it wasn't some kind of a wash or dye to give it that great color line.

John, now that you mention it, you very well may be right. I didn't notice any holes , frass, etc.

Great piece especially for the intended use. I haven't seen an end grain bowl posted in a very long time. Really like the way this turned out..

Very nice bowl, I also like the one on the old chest, over by the wall. It looks like an old ice chest.
