I have made a couple of sets of gun grips for a Gov. Model 45. The problem comes in drilling the two screw holes in the grips. I have marked the centers by using a drill in the OEM grip holes, but still have a problem getting them to snap in place without some encouragement.
Any ideas?

I have a 1911a myself. Made some grips out of rosewood. I don't have those grips now, but also don't recall them being a problem to mount. It was more trimming them to fit the right and left curves and such to get them right.
I'll take another look to see if I still have them, as I put the stock grips back on.

Use the old set as templates. Tape the new LEFT to the old RIGHT and vice versa .. drill thru ... then, using the drill bit as a guide, locate the new hole, clamp the grip in place, counterbore for the screw head. Do this 4 times, and you're finished. Make a jig if you'll be making very many of these.
