Thought I would put this on here in case anyone is looking for new holdfasts. There's an artist blacksmith in Edmonton who just quoted me $25 per holdfast, when it would cost me $65 for 2 Gramercy holdfasts from Tools for Working Wood including shipping (to Canada). It's pretty great that I can save money while supporting local artisans too.

The name of his shop is "Front Step Forge".

Very cool! I always thought blacksmithing would be an interesting line of work.

I found out about him originally because I was looking to take a blacksmithing course. He actually teaches at our local technical college, who have 4 different blacksmithing courses.

I had a very large framing chisel where the lamination of the cutting edge was separating from the back. He forge welded it back together for me a couple of years ago. Excellent job, reasonable turnaround and a fair price.

If he wants to make a lot of these for $25 each, and they're made well, he can sell dozens and dozens here and on other WW forums.
