I just finished this box elder vase form using home made hollowing tools and a 5/8 bowl gouge for the outside.
It measures 3 3/4" X 7 7/8",hollowed to 7" with a 1 3/8" opening.
The tool I used worked well up to 5" and then it was like harpooning a whale!
I'm working on a larger harpoon now. :)
It has some nice figure and a good splash of fire, finished with BLO and several coats of shellac.
It has just enough base weight to stand well.

Thats nice Jeff. Love that "splash of fire" and the subtle collar. Hf's just seem funner to turn than bowls for me....dunno why.

Nicely done, Jeff. That area of red figure is really cool. Looking forward to seeing what you make with the larger harpoons, too.

Jeff - your vase looks great! Love all the color! Hollowing can become addicting - so be warned!

Looking forward to seeing what you hollow next!

Cool splash of fire on this piece. I guess we all know which side is the front side.

Really nice, interesting how the color is confined to that small area, looks like a tree was painted on it - a self portrait by a tree. :)
