Here is a project that I have been working on. It is curly soft maple. I took some pic's along the way. It is a practice run for some dining room chairs. One of the pictures shows the BOB bowl post from last week.

Comments always appreciated.

Enjoy.

Really cool work here. It always seem turning straight and slightly tapered dowels is much harder than it should be. they look great in the pics. I love the curly maple. Is it the lighting or is there some coating on the dowels in the first pic making it appear painted?

Quinn, you have done some very nice work here! Great looking lathe work - smooth, flowing shapes, and a great finish. What did you use?

And, I have to ask - just how old is that Trebark camo shirt!!??:D;) Mine have long since bit the dust!

David, that might be the band clamps he has used.

Quinn - that is some really impressive work! Love all that curly! Nice work on the weave as well! The design should work quite well for dining room chairs! Looking forward to seeing photos of the set!

Thanks for all of the great comments. The finish on the stool is 2 coats BLO the Target em1000 sealer and Target EM2000. The target finish was sprayed on. BOB bowl has 1 BLO and 6-7 coats of minwax WOP. And then beall buffed. The shaker weaving was a challenge and is definatey a 2 person job.

John The trebark shirt I found in the back of a closet that doesn't get used much. I actually have 2. You are right they are at least 20 years old but make great shop shirts and are about ready for the garbage.

Thanks again Quinn

Great little stool, Quinn. Now you've got me thinking about a use for the curly maple lumber I have laying around here. Dining room chairs and a couple rockers would be nice. Thanks.
