I got some Walnut crotchwood a couple of weeks ago, Cut off a piece to make a present to the donor. Found a lot of cracks. (This wood had been outside for about 10 years)
Put it on the lathe and ended up with a cylinder about 2-1/4" in diameter and about 7" long. I thought a nice little box would work. After losing about 3" more to a hidden crack, I was able to make this Ring Box.
The first picture shows it "Closed Up Tight." ( It has that little "pop" when it comes apart.)
In the second picture it is opened for inspection. The Quarter is for comparison. It is 1-5/8" diameter, 1-7/8" tall, with side walls a shade over 1/16".
Hope you like it.
