My 12 inch Craftsman just isn't making the grade any more. I'm gonna get a bigger saw, but I'm trying to decide between two 18 inchers. Woodcraft has a Jet 1 1/2 hp on closeout for $999. They are also selling a Rikon 2 hp for $899. Both have ball bearing guides. The Jet runs on 115, the Rikon on 220.
I have a couple of other Jet tools that I am happy with so there is some brand familiarity there. I don't know anything about the Rikon brand.
Any words of wisdom from the experts?

I'd go with the Rikon. 12" resaw wins. My suspicion is it's made in the same factory as the Grizzly 17" and 19" ers. But, I really don't have anything to back that up.

MIchael...check last years FWW. IIRC they tested 18" b/s and the Rikon tested exceptionally well and was a recommended "best buy for the money". Again....IIRC. Good luck with your decision.

Ken, others have stated that the Rikon won out as well, so I am pretty sure that you recalled correctly :)

Hi Micheal,

I,ve had the Rikon 18 for a while and think it's a great value. Very solid, stabile, and powerful machine. I am a hobbiest and so far I haven't found any weaknesses that would discourage recommending this to everyone. I got mine thru Don @ cyberwoodworking and he would be able to answer any?? you may have on specs. and comparisons. It's fun researching all the great choices and I know it gets frustrating at decision time. It took me 4 months!! I'm confident you'd be happy with the Rikon. Good luck, John.
