Hi everyone. Sorry I've been gone so long. Biz has kept me busy. I had to make a wedding gift for a good friend but didn't have much time. This is the 4 hour 65 segmented turning w/inlay. Please enjoy.

That is a fine bowl! I would think the recipients will love it. Very nice inlay ring in the bottom, and your feature ring sets off the contrasting wood. Good stuff!

Thanks guys. I've been building so many humidors that the lathe collected its own dust. I'll be posting my latest humi after the weekend. I'm almost caught up on humi's so I'm going to get back to some turning. I've got some real neat ideas for patterns and I've been saving some beautiful wood for the occasion.

Beautiful! How did you do the inlay on the bottom and what is it? I'm sure the bride and groom will love it.

Beautiful bowl Bill. 4 hours to do what?:) I could see it taking me 4 hours to cut the pieces, 4 hours to glue them together, 4 hours to turn, 4 hours to sand, 4 hours to...

Thanks guys very much. I gotta say, it really felt good to get back on the lathe. The vortex is spinning around my shop once again.:D
One set back I have right now is I have to send my Jet wet sharpener in for warranty. The bearings went out on the shaft that holds the stone. That in turn burned up the motor. Hopefully it'll be back soon. In the mena time I'll be cutting up some segments and glueing some rings.

To answer the question about the ring in the bottom, I cut a groove in the bottom and filled it dyed epoxy. Then I put a product called inlace in the epoxy. Next I put more epoxy over the inlace stone. Once it cures I turn it smooth. Inlace is a simulated stone that is tool friendly. I tried real Turquoise once, destroyed a sharp tool instantly. They have all sorts of colors too.

I have to confess, the inlay in the bottom was out of necessity, I turned through to the edges of my base. I've done the inlace in other applications so I figured this is an ideal way to put it to use to save my piece. In the end it turned out not to be a fix and turned into a feature. You know what I say, "Necessity is the invention of a mother:eek:" I think that's how it goes. LMAO:D
