192383I just recently finished this smallish pencil/brush holder. Made of lightly spalted Maple. Size is 4" D. x 6.5" H. I placed a beaded
fret pattern band near the top. Remainder of design is a take-off of a
Navajo Sand painting. Finish is rattle-can Krylon workable fix with a
a topcoat of UV resistant Krylon. Critiques/comments always welcome.

WOW!!! How in the world you come up with these designs is beyond me but I love them! Beautiful work once again! Always a pleasure to see how you can transform simple turnings into works of art! Thank you for sharing! Absolutely amazing!

Very cool! The little bit of spalt in that piece gives it the feeling that it's been around for a while... What a neat piece!

Jim, that is amazing detail in the glyphs on this one!! The repetition is spot-on, and the line work is perfect!! The fret pattern looks to have a somewhat mottled application? Did you shade it somehow to give it that appearance? Or, am I just seeing things?

Absolutely a wonderful piece!

Jim, your work is always phenomenal!!! I can only imagine the patience needed to do the figures, because it's something I may never have.

John...you are spot-on with the "mottled" appearance. I initally planned to do the fret/Greek Key band in Dark Bark but then later changed to Burnt Sienna. What you're seeing is the small black layout dots showing thru the Sienna. Also some vertical pencil layout lines which ended-up being "embossed" into the soft Maple. A future "No No"!!!! But....all was not a total loss. My Wifie paid me $30 cash for it!!!!!!

Other Jim....How big ya want it?? Do you want one the size of a five-gollon bucket
to store your turning tools in?? Thanks for the compliments.......other Jim

Jim, that is a very nice piece and possibly something that would be a good intro to the bead illusion.

That has got to be the nicest pencil holder I can remember seeing! Lots of details there to study. Might even be distracting if I was trying to get any work done at my desk!:)
