Hi All,
I just bought a nice old J.Taylor carcase/tenon saw which is great shape except for a big 'ol chunk out of the top of the handle. I want to repair the handle so I've plane down a section around the wound to accept a wood graft (as seen in the picture below). I'll fill the rest of the void with epoxy.

have two questions:

1. any thoughts on the species? looks like mahogany to me.

2. are the any kind souls that have got any scrap mahogany around they would be willing to part with? it's a species I don't work with and don't feel like buying a chunk just for this little bit? to match grain direction a piece 4"x6"x0.5" would more than do the trick. btw. The color is pretty accurate as it appears on my screen.

Lemme know, thanks!

Cheers,
Niels
