Here is a little elevated box elder cup on african blackwood. Finished in BLO and lacquer. About 4 1/2" x 4 1/2".

Comments and critques always welcome. Thanks.

Ha! I hope you mean snifter! I was expecting to see something used to smell old people!

Beautiful wood. I like the way you used the natural edge. A very interesting and entertaining shape. Nicely done, Scott.

That's pretty cute, Scott!! Beautiful piece of BE. So, I guess one could "snift" elderberry wine in it, too - given the name!

That must work exceedingly well. I am feeling a little tipsy just looking at it!

Great looking piece Scott. I like John's idea of elderberry or choke cherry wine sipping it on the back deck.

I will admit that its a little wierd, but I like wierd. This chunk of box edler was a cut off chunk from another project. This wood is so darn cool looking that I couldn't stand to not do something with it, so this was started as a fat bottomed form and ended up looking like a warped brandy snifter...so out came the african blackwood and ..... :) Its not gonna win any awards but it is visually interesting and that was enough to satisfy me.

Thanks for the comments

This is an interesting piece, Scott. It almost looks like the top is melted which I think is cool. I agree with you about the wood... It's too nice not to turn.

That is pretty cool Scott, I like this piece alot, I agree it appears to have melted to one side and gives it a very unique look, and I really like the black pedistal/stem it is on, nice form on it.
