Hi,

I saved a sand cherry bush when landscapers had to remove it last summer (they thought I was a nut case when they saw me drag it off the garbage heap and into my garage). I don't think I've ever seen a thread regarding turning sand cherry. Has anyone ever turned this wood?

I've discovered that shrubbery usually has nice figure. I'll betcha this is no different. Rock-n-roll. :)

Here's a small piece (4 1/2" x 2" approx) made from Sand Cherry root. It was nice to turn & had lots of figure. Sorry 'bout the bad pictures.

Karen, Now I know why you left out the city/state you live in on purpose. After the pictures you would have a bunch of Creekers knocking on you door mooching Sand Cherry:D:D You have to watch this crowd like an eagle. Sadly if I lived close, you would probably see my smiling face in the crowd.;);) You are going to have fun with that wood. I almost looks like burl. I can't wait to see your pictures.

I think if you can get it mounted, you can turn it! Welcome from NM.

Sand cherry is an ornamental and grows just about anywhere. We had them when I lived in Western NY and we have them here in... well, let's just say where nothing grows unless you deliberately plant it and water it. About the only thing native to this area is sage brush! I snatched the root ball off the debris pile as well. It has so many trunks/branches coming from it I'm not sure where to begin. Now I guess I really need to get some time off work so I can play with it! Thanks for your replies.
