This was my first time working from a real log and turning it in to something. It didn't go as well as I had hoped, but it was a great learning experience. The wood was pretty rotten and punky, combine that with my poor skill and there was a fair amount of tear out and other problems. I also used a dovetail recess to hold the piece instead of a tail and I forgot how close I was to the bottom till it was to late.

Still it was fun to learn and overall I was relatively happy with how it turned out given everything. The one nice thing was that the wood looked good enough to hide some of my flaws. Don't have any pictures of it finished, but I sanded it to 220 and then just did a coat of BLO.

Stephen - Welcome to the vortex! Funnel turning is just a part of the learning process! You only have to turn a few and you start to pay attention to depth! Have fun and be safe!

Stephen.....Stuff happens!! Add my name to the list of "Been there, done that".
It would make a nice-looking sink and maybe give you several "shop passes' with your
