the first one is a no 26 w. a wooden sole, and the other is a no.8 i belive looks like a rabbit plane?? has a metal handle that is shaped like a hand saw handle. the sole of it is approx 1 inch wide,any idea of there age and or value and the use's of them. thanks for any advice// larry

That second one sounds like a Stanley #78 or equivalent. A Rabbet plane that they made into at least the 1960s and maybe later. Parts are still available through this link to Stanley.

The Stanley #8 is a jointer plane. Weighs nearly ten pounds and over two feet long. Check out this site:

Patrick has a write-up on just about every Stanley plane ever made. In many cases he has pictures.

You may want to check eBay to see what planes like yours are selling for. Much depends on condition and if you are interested in selling the plane to a collector, don't do any restoration. Cleaning is OK but no paint or varnish!
