This one has been a PILL. I have been working on it and studying it for better then a month and I still think it lacks something but I gave up and just finished it. It is too thick, too fat, too tall, lacks curve(flow), you name it but it is what it is NOW.

Stats:
Material = Walnut Burl + Maple Accents
Height = 12"
Diameter = 4.5
Finish = one coat WOP to date, more and buffing due

James, my opinion(quite unqualified) is that the piece looks much better without the lid and finial.

JD, sometimes they just don't come out quite as expected. It is an interesting piece, with a lot of contrast. The burl is awesome! (I really need to turn some of what you gave me!) I think perhaps the "double curve" on the form is causing some difficulty. You have an ogee in the top half, and in the bottom the form curves back out somewhat. That makes the transition off the pedestal difficult, too. But, it is a well done piece and the wood carries it a long way.

Nice looking goblet James. I agree the lid and finial just doesn't do it for me. The burl really does make the piece.

I like it James. Georgious piece of wood with a medieval look.

James I can see a lot of work and thought in an outstanding turning. The finish is terrific and the turning on the NE is very good, no easy task. The combination of wood is very good. I would consider it a success.:)

Yep...very pretty. I'd call it a Lidded Pedestal Vessel. If you want a little more elegance, then just take a little material off of the stem and finial...not much...just a little. The form of the vessel is pleasing so I'd leave that alone. Then again...You could just call it DONE. Very Nice James :)

It happens to all of us..but you did a great finish job on that gorgeous wood. Keep trying.

I like the woods used and I can see where you were going with the design - just one of those times where you need to take a break and come back to it later.

Sure is some pretty walnut and you did a great job on the finish!
