I picked up a satinwood board 20+ years ago. I never found a good use for it. Too small for a piece of furniture and to large to cut up into piping or trim. 4/4 x 9" x 72". I cut off a 9" square this week and it ended up making a presentable tray/plate. It was very dense and dry and takes a nice polish. I think that I will make more plates from the rest and experiment on different shapes and techniques on the same wood and blank size. It's 8 1/2" dia. and 7/8" tall.

That looks great, Deane! I've turned a little bit of satinwood, and I'm betting that photos don't do that piece justice!

That is pretty! You can sure tell from the photos that the wood loves to play with the light! Bet it is amazing in person! Looking forward to seeing what else you turn out of the Satinwood!

I absolutely love satinwood. That piece is the "real stuff". It's beautiful and the simplicity of your design really lets it shine.

That is a really nice piece Deane. The sun really makes the wood shine.
