Does anybody know what the recommended maximum weight for inboard and outboard turning is on a 1624? I looked and can't find the info anywhere. Closest I found was a 50 lb limit for a 3000 which has a larger spindle.

Thanks,

Interesting question I'd never thought of. I'd say if you haven't found any info, then the limit would be dictated by 1. what you can physically pick up, or you and a friend or two, and 2. by what you can safely spin (without it being so out of balance that the lathe goes dancing across the floor and out the door), and 3. by the size (16"?) for inboard and outboard (don't know the size there). Don't forget, that if you're turning between centers, with a bowl, you can use the tailstock for support, at least when doing the rough-turning.

Not for sure either, but I have had a 15 1/2" dia x10" hunk of green maple on mine. It probably weighed 30-35lbs and it was no problem. Of course I had to go real slow until rounded.
