This is my latest work. I have been real busy lately with not much turning time. This is a bit smaller piece than I normally do as it is about 6"x4 ". If you notice all of my acorn caps are oriented in the same direction. This was an experiment to see if I could do it so I kept the piece small in case of a disaster. This is my first piece I have done in green. It is a little more subdued than some of my other pieces but I like it. It kind of reminds me of a peacock. The lid is a piece of live oak burl with worm holes cast in the same resin. The finish is CA. I am overall real happy with the results.

I have a couple of other pieces that I have finished. As soon as I get them photographed I will post pics of them.

As always comments welcome.

Thanks,

Alan

That's gorgeous Alan. So this piece is acorn caps encased in a casting?

Stunning piece Alan. The green has a somewhat eery cast to it-at least on my monitor-and compared to your blue one, but I mean that in a good way!

Very cool effect! Reminds me of leaded glass! Really like how the color jumps out at you! Very - very nice! Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Really cool look. I really like this resin casting process you've used here and in the other pieces. Very nice work.

That is a lovely piece, never seen anything like it. I've seen wood and resin mixed in pens, never in a larger project. Looks like something from Tiffany. Really nice.

Very cool, Alan. The pearlescent acrylic is mesmerizing, and the extra effort to orient all of the acorns the same way was really worth the effort. I'm looking forward to seeing the others, too.

Alan, this is a wonderful piece!! I love the color, and the concept is really unique. The wood in the lid goes very well with the green. One is drawn to this one - easy to look at. Great job!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. When I was making the casting I was cussing on the amount of time it took. There was about 10 hours in prep work before I cast the piece and still had to turn, hollow, and finish it. It kind of reminds me of doing segmented work as it was a bit tedious. However I was very happy with the results so I figure the time was well spent.

Like I said I have done a couple of other pieces that I need to finish the photo's on and I will post those a little later today or tomorrow. One is a resin piece and the other is all wood.

Again Thanks,

Alan

Stunning work Alan. The colors and shapes make me think Peacock with fish scales. Very unique concept you have developed here.

That's awesome, Alan. It looks like cloisonné enamel! This process of yours is a prime candidate for one of those "step by step" threads. I would love to see how you do this...
