No clue John, as hard as it is and as red as it is and with the amount of tannin coming out, I suspect this is red oak!

I'm anxious to see what that stuff looks like turned and finished. It does look like ambrosia staining, but I've never heard of ambrosia oak! Congrats on discovering a new wood for turners to covet!

Well, here is the 1st roughout. It appears to me those are bark inclusions.....lots of super glue and an oil wipe...now for a quick sand and then AS and see ya in a year!

Man, that is some sweet looking wood. I don't generally like turning oak, but I think I could fall in love with that stuff. I'm going to set my alarm for one year so I'll remember to look for the finished piece.

Nice looking burl and bowl Ken! Is that the big one you had dumped in your front yard last fall? If I remember correctly, you were going to put christmas lights on it. Must have been kind of a bummer to have to take them off yesterday just to cut it up.;)

Thats a super find and man it is beautiful. Can't wait to see more of it turner. If you ever get to the area between Cleveland and Akron Oh you can use my Vega 2600.
