I didn't want to hijack Greg's post so I thought it best to start a new one. These have sold very well for me over the years. The first show I did with them I sold out within the first couple of hours.

Hummingbirds are so cool and these feeders are a great idea plus the fact they are really cool also. Where do you get the inserts and how are they held in.

Hi Bill. I purchased the inserts at a looking surplus store but a lot of hardware stores or maybe even Walmart would carry them. At first I used to silicone seal them into place but decided I wanted them to be removable for proper cleaning. Now I use either the elastic band that is around a lot of our produce or simple electrical tape to provide a friction fit. Bothnseem to work just fine and allow the easy removal that I was looking for.

very nice - the banksia pod version is very unique. I think I have a couple of those lying around somewhere.

I love watching the hummingbirds in my yard... See quite the air show when there are some aggressive ones about. Those look nice, how much were you selling them at the shows for?

Very nice. What kind of finish do you use to stand up to the elements outdoors?

Thanks for the comments.

Depending on the wood I sell them for anywhere from $45-75.

The finish on the wood ones is Flecto Varathane crystal clear waterborne diamond wood finish. It lasts very well. I just recoated some last year that had only started to show finish deterioration after 7 years of use. I chose not to put a finish on the Banksia pod ones so they could age naturally. The tag that is attached to each one does state that there is no finish on them. I also make sure that all tags contain the recipe for the solution and the warning not to use food colouring.

Wow! That's a lot larger feeder than I thought would be in there.

Looks like this one : http://www.amazon.com/Perky-Pet-215P-Planter-3-Ounce-Hummingbird/dp/B000OQZ5P0/ref=sr_1_38?ie=UTF8&qid=1303053059&sr=8-38

Yup that would be it. About 6 inches long and an inch plus in diameter.
