My friend Mel and I made a rainy-day trip to Omaha again last Thursday! This time, to pick up this pretty-much pristine Delta 14" 5hp RAS. It's missing the elevation crank handle and some water blew under the tarp to swell the MDF table, but I'm not complaining.

I suppose the reason it sold so low on eBay was because of the 200V 3-phase motor--unusable for all but a few with that sort of commercial power.

Bidding on the beast just seemed like the right thing to do, since I have another 5hp 230v 3-phase motor in my "rathole"! The saw went for only $100.99 on eBay. Gas and eats on the 12 hr. round trip were about $200. And I have less than $200 in the extra motor.

That's a Big 5hp 1995 Delta RAS for about $500! Not bad at all for an RAS in this kind of shape, rather than those that sat out, uncovered, in the elements for too-many years.

Maybe I can sell the 200V motor for a few bucks to recover some of my gas money! Time will Tell. Meanwhile, life is good!

That's a beast. I wish I had the room for something like that.

that table sure is wonky looking.

Super nice score by the way. I love the big RASs

Sweet. I'd love to have one that large. Good on you. You could put a VFD on instead of changing the motor.

Beautiful find. Congratulations.

5 HP! That oughtta hold you for a while. It's the long-arm version too. Does it have a model number (a 40 CL?)? Year? Picture of the nameplate?

Aw. She's a beauty.

Pretty sure you could crosscut my dining room table with that thing.

Congrats !!

Dang, that saw is impressive. It's great to see RASs coming back into use. I'll bet there isn't much that thing can't crosscut.

Not sure that a VFD is the way to go to run a 200v saw on 230v. 5hp VFDs are quite pricy even if it works. Since I already have the Delta 5hp RAS motor, it seems like a no-brainer to just swap. We'll see how it goes. Thanks all, for the kind words!

Nice score, but I hate to break it to you man, but that thing is too dang BIG - but no worries - I have a 12" Delta 3HP single phase turret model with the short arm that I'll trade ya straight up for it - that way you have more room in your shop and don't need to deal with the whole 3 phase motor thing.

Hey no need to thank me - that's just the kinda guy I am - send me a PM on when you want to make the swap :)

Aww Thanks Erik, but I'm getting kinda used to BIG in my small shop. This long-arm version will replace the "old" '84 model Rockwell 33-362 7.5hp 18" RAS. See?? I am downsizing already! ;-)

Nice saw Chip. You will like it.
I have a 240 volt model from the same year.
