Finished it off today. Its a piece of my Red Oak, roughed, DNA soak and returned. This piece had some checks that did not get to bad after turning and the soak. Repaired with CA, then a CA grain fill, BLO then a buff job. Crappy pics, wife put away the lights and I had to drag them out in a hurry (then put them away LOL)

This is a very fine example of what beauty oak can provide. Beautiful piece Ken.

My kind of bowl Ken. Beautiful piece of wood to keep peanuts in!

Like shipping peanuts?

Or maybe those big orange marshmallowy circus peanuts?

Great bowl Ken. Lots of character in those knots!

That is what I was thinkin'! The wife told me last week that my regular bowls look like store bought items:( The NE and bowls with character work she says LOL! I personally like a bowl that looks handmade and old....sort of like me:p

I'm not a turner, but every now and then I hop over here to look at the pretty pictures. Gotta stop doing that, y'all are making me wanna buy a lathe, and I can't afford a lathe right now. Y'all oughta be ashamed of yourself tempting me and tormenting me like that.

Seriously, though, love the bowl... How much? I may be in the market!

Very nice bowl - not what I would expect from Oak (which we have alot of here in Calif) - I love the character.

Can you explain your DNA drying process?

I turn to whatever thickness I feel is right...on this bowl it was about 5/8 inch. Throw it in the bucket of dna and forget about it for a few days, then a newspaper wrap...same as everyone else really.

Pretty stuff... I hate to turn oak, but I'm glad others don't feel the same 'cause it sure is nice to look at. Nicely done.

Nice work Ken! Really like how the grain direction runs all over the place! Bet it really plays with the light!

That's a very nice looking bowl. But are you sure it's a bowl and not an "open form"?

I try not to think to much, it hurts my head;)
