Has anyone had experience turning Port Orford Cedar?

I have not personally turned any...............but I have seen some and also heard some turners say it is VERY prone to cracking..........If you could get kiln dried then it is a good wood, or if you can control the drying process very well it will make some nice turning wood.

I turned a nose cone for a rocket out of it once. Pretty soft, but it cut nicely in spindle orientation. Smells good as well. I would like to try some Alaskan yellow cedar. Those wash up on the coast once in a while. I had some one give me a burled piece of it once. Very strong smelling, but turned and sanded out nicely.

Don't know about turning, but it makes excellent arrows!! Should be fairly stable when dry.
