I am concidering buying a used 14" General thickness planer - model #130. This one is made in Quebec not the "International" line. It is 15+ years old but in very good, well maintained shape. Does anyone have any advise on things to look out for on this model or how it may differ from the current version of the 130? I have not gone to see it and want to be a little more prepared when I do.

Thanks,
Konrad

Konrad,
I use to own a 130. I sold it when I bought my MM machines. The 130 is a great little planer. It is built like a tank. I am not sure what could go wrong with it because it is such a simple machine. Maybe take a look at the threads on the lifting screw and see if they are worn, check and see if the table is coplaner with the cutter head (probably a test cut will tell you that).

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the comments. I am pretty sure this is one of those cases where the design has not changed much in 20 years - they got it right the first time. I will post to let you know if it follows me home or not.

take care,
Konrad
