I guess I'll pass on this one, but quite a piece of machinery.

YeeHaw! I stood in front of one of those(or one very much like it) for nearly ten years. Got little scars all over my arms for proof. Those little blue chips smart!

I have seen a few of those but never ran one that size. I did run a LeBlond lathe about 40 odd years ago.

Wow! There was nothing to compare the size to until that guy walked up to it.

:) Thats a pretty big manual.
First CNC i ran (15years ago) was a Warner Swasey SC28
http://www.machinetools.com/us/listings/view/warner-and-swasey-sc28--6

When doing setups and having to change out some of the tools, i used to climb in the machine and stand on the conveyor belt to change out some of the bigger boring bars. To say it was alittle intimidating is an understatement. After a few months of getting comfortable, use to get a "fixture box" (roughly a 2' square box hollowed out and cut in half, used to put the part in the middle then bolt the box back together) spinning close to a grand... the door on the machine would start to shake... boy, they where the good old days :p

Used to machine large cast iron and cast steel steam value bodies.

I wonder if the technicians come with the lathe!!:D

Holy smokes. 'Course then...there's no danger. Me needs danger.

....and lacquer. ;)

I can't imagine which direction that vortex would go. Hey Dan did you buy it? I don't think it is going into your basement shop.

This is quite the beast isnt it, it would be interesting to see something being turned by it.

Pinion shafts for gear trains, working in a gear shop. We produced gears from 1/4" od to 96" od.

Nope, thought it would be the logical next step up for you though.

So......... I wonder if it comes with a couple of extra chucks so you don't to spend time changing the jaws!

Steve --- Like John said, I think the tech that comes with the lathe takes care of all that.

Imagine what the tooling would cost for that sucker! At 50,000lbs I think it might need a little ballast... anyone have a spare cement truck laying around?
