I managed to do 2 turnings this weekend. Red Gum or Sweet gum. It's 8" dia. and 2" tall. I went rather quickly compared to the little, deep cut pieces that I was trying. The old $100 Delta/Milwakee barely turned it on low speed. Did better when I moved to a faster pulley. Years ago we used gum as paint grade on furniture.

I really like that one! Would be a shame to cover up such nice wood with paint.

Great looking piece there. I've got some sweet gum but mine doesn't have as much dark spots in it as that one. That one looks really good.

That one hits the spot for me Deane...good shape, nice foot and a fine piece of wood.

Deane, you hit the mark with this one!! That wood is beautiful, and I really like the form on this one - nice soft edge. Well done!

Nice looking form and finish. I bet this went faster and easier than the first bowls you were posting. Glad you found some nice wood and went to an easier shape. You got good results.
