If you give a location, you will get better responses. Lumber prices vary so much by reagion ;-)

Michigan has a lot of poplar but like Glenn wrote it would help a lot if you gave your location.

It also depends on how much lumber you need. If you're building one or two pieces, your best deal is probably a local retailer. If you're buying for mass production, you buy a truck load directly from a mill. What do you need?
