I tried giving this Osage Orange blank away twice last week without any takers.
So I spent today turning it------ came out kinda nice. No finish at this point just wiped down with a home brew oil. Base is 3/4 thick----kinda heavy but I can live with it.

Interesting piece Gary. On the pith, where you filled the cracks...was it already cracked, or did it crack during the drying process/

Gary, I kind of like this form, and the osage is a perfect wood for it. The "spider web" pith is an interesting feature.

Nice piece I really like the shapes your doing,Have you tried any in really wet wood so the cracking might be less or is it just that there cracking will drying.I'd love to see one of your shapes without the cracks.Keep going their looking good.

Very nice HF Gary, including the character cracks.

Folks this tree was standing last week-----it don't get any wetter. John, Osage is bad about cracking as it grows you can see how the wood has darkened on the sides of the cracks.

Gary that is a nice HF. The pith sure does give it a lot of character.

Sure is some good looking wood! Seeing how it is green - do you allow it to dry some and then wipe it down with more oil or what?

Doesn't look to tippy and plenty of ballast too! Lots of character too!

Steve I have a 20 gallon tank of homebrew, I just toss a block of steel into the turning and drop it into the tank.
