Haven't made any or even seen the article yet but I might give them a go. Blades could be made from O1 stock 1/2 wide by width of groove desired- 1/8, 3/16, etc

Why stop at grooves?

Once a person gets the hang of making these, they could be made for beads, flutes or other shapes.

Looks like Rob Cosman has them for ~$150 ea, right or left-hand, and irons are available from IBC for ~$35 ea if you make your own plane body.
