One of the differences between my new Delta planer and the previous model is that the new one, 22-590, has three knives and a single speed. The 22-580 had two knives and 2 speeds.

The new one produces 96 CPI at a feed rate of 26 feet per minute. The 22-580 was capable of either 60 or 90 CPI. 60 CPI for initial cuts and 90 for the finish cut. The lower CPI extended the knives' lives.

I wonder if a rheostat type current limiter would work with the 22-590 planer? Or, would I run the risk of damaging the motor?
Thanks,
Gene

Does it have separate feed and head motors? I would think it's just one motor. If you slow it down, it just slows everything down, giving the same CPI.

Anyhow, unless it's a universal motor, the only way to slow it down is to hook it up to a VFD.

Thanks, John.
Looks like I'm stuck with what I got. No separate motors. I didn't think of that.
