Ahhh, done. What sealer should I use?

The fish tank stand is done. I was going to use a cherry colored finish on both the poplar and walnut panels. I was looking for a good waterproof sealer to use. Something with a high gloss to it. Any suggestions?

No such thing as a truely "waterproof" sealer/finish unless you are willing to bath the project in resin. Several coats of varnish will likely do, however, after you get your coloration right as long as you don't have a persistant leak in the tank.

Robert, I shot several coats of lacquer on mine and it has stood up very well over the last twelve or so years, with no signs of wear.

Nice job ! will make a GREAT stand to the fishtank. I would use several coats of a spar varnish on it.

Varnish will work and though I am not a fan of Poly varnish, this is one time it might better suit your needs: durability, water resistant, abrasion resistant etc and comes in glossy. I used Minwax fast dry Poly (against my instincts) on a computer desk a few months ago and it has taken a beating, had water and beverages spilled many times. I'm very pleased w results! This might meet your needs.

Use the Waterlox Marine Finish. It's available at Woodcraft. It is made here in Cleveland and I've not had anything but success with it. We finished a bird house with it (made of pine, and the oldests first project) and it's still in great condition after 2 years in the outdoor weather. Hope this helps.
