I just finished this, and a friend dropped in & bought it under the guise of a gift for her husband! Now that is a smart gal! Cherry 11 1/2 inches & copper. I adore this piece, and I'm glad it went to a home I can have visitation!!

Wow - this is unbelievably beautiful. Not only the perfection achieved with the symmetry of the process but the coloring in the finished product is perfect with the copper medallion. Wonderful sculpture.

I really like this piece. This would fit in my office. It's classy and just rustic enough. Cool! :)

Really nice. What are you using to patina the copper. I love the blue/green color you are getting

Michelle,

Is the copper piece flat, or more like the cap for a copper pipe?

That is a beauty, Michelle. Couldn't have found a better piece for that medallion, and you even have visitation rights:).

Michelle, SPECTACULAR!!! I love everything about it. And you sold it with visitation rights, can't beat that.

Michelle,

Is the copper piece flat, or more like the cap for a copper pipe? Hey Dan: It;'s 36 guage sheet stock..I got it from Colorcopper.com..I got the sample pack and it's in small little cut-offs..i dislike most of what I got, but a few of the pieces. this stuff I really liked.

Michelle, this is easily your best (or at least my favorite) piece to date.* The center on this one is spot on and really compliments the entire piece. No wonder it sold so fast.

*exception made for you excellent windsor chair work

Michelle, this is beautiful. Do you think this copper patina would hold up under extreme temperatures, somewhere between 1400-1500* F? Maybe I will give them a call tomorrow.

Beautiful turning and color combo Michele. Reminded me of a peacock when I first looked at it.

Wow. Your work is just so precise, but not robotic. Mesmerizing is the word that comes to mind, even when it's not a 'negative space' piece. I really admire these, and hope to get to that level someday -

I'm not an expert, but I doubt it..it's 36 guage sheet material..very thin. I'd call them up & see if any of their stuff would work as you'd like.

Ray,

You would likely burn the patina off at those temps (I couldn't tell if it was a true patina or just paint from their website), though you would also likely add back in some more nice oxidized marks at those temps. Try flooding the area with some different gases and see what colors you can come up with...

Love your work and find this piece to be awesome. I really admire your creative design skills and your mastery of Weissflog's technique. You have an artist imagination and the turning skills to bring it to life.
You should check out David J Marks video on patination and gilding because the possibilities to apply this technique to turned objects are unlimited. Keep up the great work and I'm awaiting your next creation.
Regards
Randy
