This turned out to be interesting from where it came. Two weeks ago while at work(since we pick up items and brush that the city citizens throw away) we picked up an old couch and while it was being put in the truck to be hauled away the foot fell off the bottom of it. I picked it up and thought (what would this look like on the lathe?) Here is the result. I just wish I had the other 3 of them. I will be looking for more in the future. It is Maple and about 5 1/2 wide and 2" tall. I added a little decoration at the top and on the bottom. There is not much that I will not try to turn. It has 5 coats of WOP.

Reduce, Recycle, Reuse :D

Good job with the bowl, and a creative re-use of a discarded item that would have ended up in the landfill. Did you burn the line, or was it colored?

Both lines were burned after a small groove was added about 1/16 deep.

That's cool, Donny! You've definitely got the turning bug when every waking thought is about mounting something on the lathe.

I wonder if this would qualify as your first segmented turning?:)

That stuff is interesting, eh in that they laminate all sorts of "whatever dunno" wood and then use lacquer toners to mimic any type wood. Nice job - don't let that lathe rest!

Nice "pickup" piece, Donny!! I agree with MJ on the wood - probably not maple, but looks fine here for sure.

Funny, that's what I was thinking when looking at the pics:D. Nice tight joinery, nice M&M bowl to set by the couch.
