I tried my first turning with a lid. It was a learning experience to say the least. I had a small piece of walnut and turned a small knob on the top. I ended up splitting the knob and had to part it off. It would of been nice to have a thinner parting tool to fit the lid.
about 4" tall and 3" dia.

Deane, Being your first lidded box it is excellent. Walnut can be extremely tricky when you turn small diameters.

Deane, I would say you did pretty good! Finished out to a nice little box. As of yet, I have not undertaken a lidded box like this - need to try one sometime.

That's a cool box Deane. As a suggestion...you may want to steer clear of a base on a salt box...they can tip easily and make a mess. In these cases, a wide, short stance is preferred over a tall narrow one. Keep it up!

Very nice first Box, Deane. Sheesh...very nice 10th box!! I'm still trying to make a decent one. :)

Nice simple design and well executed. I also have not attempted a lidded box and this is a nice example. I am in agreement re the foot and instability. Too bad about the knob - just one more design opportunity.

Very nice-especially for a first. You can always retrofit a knob if you want.
