This is a utilitarian cherry bowl & knob with a segmented maple lid. The lid is a trial glue-up that I did when I was setting up my sled, not great, but wanted to use it somewhere. Thanks, Steve for the help along the way.
It's 5" x 3 3/4" OA, sanded to 800 with 4 coats of AO, wet sanded between coats with 2000. Ought to hold enough m&ms' for a movie:). Thanks for looking.

Oooh....Roland, what a beauty! I like this a lot! great form and the lid with the knob just fits the style perfectly with the replication of the form as the knob! That one is a looker and would look good on anyone's mantle!

I like it, and as Roger said, the replication of the form in the knob is the icing on the cake.

That's pretty neat!! So, have you defected to the segmented world for good?? Or, is this just a brief diversion?? Great form, and the knob is really nice!

Roland that's a really nice piece. I think the hardest part of these "lidded box" forms is coming up with a knob/finial that does not look odd. You nailed this one!

Nice Roland! Looks like it was worth the time and effort to keep playing with the knob design! This one works extremely well! You should be very happy with the final results! Very nice work! Thanks for sharing!

I think you nailed the form with this especially the lid.
Do you expect the joints to remain intact on the lid with seasonal changes in humidity? I did one a while back with dry wood and the centers opened up a couple years later. Just a little but enough to be annoying.
Very nice work

Thats a good question, David. I haven't got enough experience with segmenting, so will have to live & learn:). Maple does shrink and expand quite a bit with the seasons. I suppose, a new lid, if necessary, would be fairly minimal to replace. Thanks.

A nice little bowl, Roland. And the segmenting is a wonderful surprise that draws you in (I didn't notice it at first, until I opened the thumbnail).
