My yard is starting to look like a big firewood pile. It's a daily routine now. This is a nice pile of Dogwood,Maple,Walnut and something else. The one with the red part is what I'm talking about. It's not Box elder. It could be a type of fruitless tree. It does have some spalting and will make some nice bowls. The leaves are a greenish/purple color with purple buds all over it. Either way I may never get to turning since I will spend most of my time cutting and slicing and sealing. I shall never run out of wood.

Some of this Dogwood is 15" through and freshly cut.

189800Well, what I thought was Dogwood might be something 189801else. Any suggestions? This is what's inside. The bark looks just like dogwood. Could it be Ash? Whatever it is, I think it looks great right now.189800

Congrats on your additional wood haul! No idea what species of wood but the grain pattern sure looks like Ash. Have fun cutting, sealing , stacking, etc! Looking forward to seeing what you turn out of this!

The picture at the top on the right with the red looking bark was not any good inside. It turned out to be rotten with tremites. There was nothing to get even a pen blank from. I thought it was solid. I have plenty more where that came from. I'm going to try to cut some "BIG" blanks today or tomorrow of Spalted Maple. These should be 20 inches or bigger. I hope to get at least 4 blanks from this thing.,and maybe alot of smaller pieces.

The broken wood with the red color under the bark is Crab Apple, nice wood to turn, the red is less than paper thin and will be gone when dry.

Donny I don't know what it is, could it be a pear tree maybe ??, I have never seen Ash that looks like this, it normally doesn't have the color differences between early and late wood, I'd be just guessing if I put a name to it :-)

Donny if the wood came from the blocked bark piece at the bottom of the left pic, I think it's possible it may be dogwood.

Nice pile there - can't wait to see what emerges from the other side.

This wood has me bumfuzzled. If you look at the picture at the top right under the piece with the red bark on it, Well this is the piece. Looks like "Dogwood" bark but is it a big dogwood???? I've got a Landscaping Tree expert at work and I will find out in a day or so. I have some beautiful pieces of this and 3 more pieces to cut up today so I will have to find out.

The bark sure looks like Dogwood. I've got a piece in the shop right now and the bark is identical.

I did find out that this is "Dogwood". Biggest dogwood I've ever seen and funky looking design on the inside.190134
