A gloat of sorts... I'm in Las Vegas for a few days, and I'm wondering if there are any can't miss turning places. I'm planning to hit Woodworker's Emporium to drool on the Vicmarc goodies, but I don't want to miss anything else if it's around.

Anyone got any suggestions?

You don't want to miss the amazing "Woodturner's Topless Stage Extravaganza" nightly in the Liberace room at the Atlantis casino. Performers acting the parts of woodturning greats like Ellsworth, Jordan, Moulthrop and many others appear on the stage in smoking cloudbursts of glitter laced sawdust, dressed in costumes that look just like their turnings. The stage has a large revolving platform with several lathes, an American Beauty, a big Oneway with all the trimmings, a Stubby bowl lathe and several pieces of "classic American Old Arn". Lathe chisels swing from invisible lanyards, somehow missing the performers who grab them in mid dance, whirl around to the lathe platform and begin to "work" on the spinning pieces. Neon curlys fly all over the place as strobe light flash and topless dancing girls spin around and cast languid looks of desire at the "turners". It's quite the show and not to be missed.

Sad to say, but I'd pay to see the show you just described.

I would go take a class with Jimmy Clewes.

Don't some of those girls "turn" around "wood spindles" er, poles ??

My brother in law goes once a year to the casino's and shows. I was never interested until I heard DD's description. My BIL never mentioned that one.

Is Woodworkers Emporium the one off Tropicana west of the strip? Can't remember the name of the street, but I think it began with an "A", like Argyle or something like that.

"...Um .... no...."

Sorry about that. But there is an ordinance in Las Vegas that all stage shows must have at least twenty topless dancers and at least half of them must be female. Something to do with "equal opportunity"...

It is on Arville Street which is west of the Tropicana.

I second going over to see Jimmy Clewes. I'm heading to Vegas in June to take his course then head off to the Grand Canyon.

I made it to Woodworkers Emporium, and I'm now the proud owner of a VM120 and some Cole jaws for my VM100 grizzly knockoff.

The owner is a turner and a heck of a nice guy... He offered to drive us back to our hotel!

MJ, what happens here, stays here(except my new toys)... No pics!

David,

Well, congrats on trolling around Vegas and finding a way to spend money. Man that had to be tough. In this situation I think the "no picture clause" can be invoked. Mr. Keeton can lend his expertise and ruling on this.

Jimmy Clewes lives in Vegas. Track him down and see if he is home or on demo tour. Guess I wasn't the first to mention Clewes:) Ya know, after David's itenary I could be persuaded to change my plans:eek::D:D:D
