I own a LV BU Jack and am wondering if anyone here has tried one with the L-N hotdog for shooting? From the pictures they appear similar but the devil is in the details!! <g>

I don't know of anyone that has tried the LN hotdog on a LV plane. my gut instinck after handeling the two different planes in the last couple months is that the LV casting would be to thick to fit the LN hotdog.

I know Derek Cohen has a tutorial on how to make your own hot dog for the LV BUJ... http://www.inthewoodshop.com/ShopMadeTools/Building%20the%20Hotdog%20Mk%20II%20for%20the%20LV %20LA%20Jack%20pics.html

Thank you, Andrew.. and thanks for the link. The construction process looks pretty straightforward assuming you have a lathe! :D

If you have a round piece of material to start with, a lathe is not needed.

Here is a post showing one made for use on my shooting board with a Stanley bench plane.

Vertical orientation was tried first, then later a hot dog type orientation was utilized.

Do you know anyone in your area with a lathe?

Maybe you could get them to turn a piece for you.

There was a post on Alf's "Musings from the Workbench" on making a hot dog shooting handle without a lathe

The original hot dogs had parallel sides. If I make 1 for my plane,it will be thus.
