I am needing to make a piece of oak that is 1/2" X 14" wide X 27" long. I have two pieces that I can put together side by side to make this up but was wondering if I should use a joint to join them? I have been told just to glue and clamp them, also to finger joint them or to tongue & groove them. Also what type of glue is best? I have been using Elmers Wood glue and it seems fair but wondered if there was better. Thanks again.

Bernie, if the the edges are straight and square, there's little need to cut a joint to assemble them. The glue joint will be stronger than the wood.

Bernie -

I find using a couple of biscuits in between the two boards help in the assembly and alignment.

If the edges are straight and square there is no need for any joinery. Elmers will be fine as far as glue goes.

Long grain to long grain....just glue!
