Show me yr split top workbench

I'm thinking about making my new workbench a split top. I like the idea of an integral filler that doubles as a bench stop. Also, I like the clamping versatility of being able to get to the inside.

Any downsides to a split top design?

I'd like to see your pix - especially the underside. My bench will only be 60" long, so is there a need for any cross member support under the table besides the ones joining the legs and supporting the ends? The top is 2 1/4" thick maple.

Prashun, a real workbench is on my to-do list. I've been collecting ideas here and there for about four months. I appreciate the McGuire Workbench designs. So while this is not exactly "my split top" bench, it is a pretty cool set up none the less. Check it out - the split top is demonstrated about 2:40 into the video.
