Has anyone tried replacing their 6" Ridgid JP06101 jointer's cutter head with a Grizzly 6" spiral head? Looking at the parts for both, they look to be almost identical. The biggest difference I can tell is the Ridgid uses 3/8x24 bolts to mount the head and the Grizzly uses 3/8x24 studs. The Ridgid is called out as 3.5 mm. long. No length on the given on the Grizzly parts diagram. If this would fit I would love to replace mine. Grizzly includes the bearings and I think the Byrd heads require you to supply the bearings. Thanks for any information.

No specific experience, but the chart on page 48 of the Grizzly catalog lists Grizzly heads H7653 (the one you're talking about), T10125 (another spiral, doesn't appear to include bearings), and H7764 (Byrd) as all compatible with the Ridgid JP0610.

Please post if you do, huh ?

I like my JP0610 enough to keep it, and ... maybe even enough to upgrade it, rather than dump it for an 8" spiral.....

Good luck !

Grizzly has the Byrd head for $250, I am going to try it. Not sure I need new bearings yet, only a few hours on it.

I bought a Byrd head from Holbein.com. He matched grizzly's price of $250. It took less than an hour to switch it out. I'm very pleased with it and its performance. Make sure to buy it with the bearings installed. I think it cost me an extra $15 but was so worth it.
