A little roadtrip this morning to a very awesome guy I met earlier this year, called me last week to come look at a maple tree he had. It was about 5' long, 24+" diam, 5 branch crotch section. He offered to slice it into smaller pieces and I could have it all if I could make a large salad bowl out of it for his Church .... so I picked it up today and brought it to my neighbor w/ the woodmizer and we started cutting a few of the pieces up. (started raining and two of the pieces are too big for his saw) Gotta chainsaw it down a bit and we'll finish slicing everything in a week or so.

I feel kinda guilty! Not really sure that I can do it justice .. haha ... Since it was a multi-branch crotch area, I had no idea how to slice it! With the multiple grain directions it seemed I couldnt lose. Neighbors woodmizer has a 28" capacity (20" when we have to use a 4x4 to clamp the log in ... so I gotta chainsaw the bigger pieces)

I am excited ...

Wow! Congrats on the beautiful wood! Even rough cut it looks like you have some amazing wood to play with! Looking forward to seeing the salad bowl when finished!
