I showed this one a while ago, turned green and soaked with Antique oil, then soaked again, let sit to dry, more AO, then more AO, and finally buffed yesterday. Had fits trying to eliminate the hot spots when shooting, still have to figure that out. It is elm, about 5 high and 7 wide. It ovaled a bit, enough to make a finial impossible, but I do have another that is drying and will be returned, will try a finial on that one.

A job well done, Dan. Nice form, grain and finish. This one doesn't need a finial, gorgeous the way it is.

Nice, Dan! Watch out these HF's can become addictive!

Dan, the finished product really looks great! With the upward slope on the shoulder, and the slight lift of the opening, I think a finial may be too much here. Very nice on its own.

Very nice hollow form, I think that you will be doing more of these.

Dan, good looking HF. Ilike the form and the grain. Afriend of mine gave me a couple of cherry logs yesterday. I hope to try my first HF from some of that wood. Thanks for posting.

Very very nice work Dan! Beautiful wood! Really like the form on this one and agree with the earlier comments that a finial is not going to add anything to the piece!

Looking forward to seeing HF#2!

Really nice, Dan. The form does a great job of standing on its own and showing off the beauty of the wood.

Very nice Dan. I have yet to slip on the HF slope... but I feel the urge:)

Is that inches or feet? :D

Very nice piece. No finial needed.

Dan great looking piece. I love the form, the wavy grained wood and finish. I agree with the others on the finial.

Very nice HF. The ovaling is not really apparent, really like the finish, and this one can stand on it's own without a finial.

Very good looking piece Dan, I thought it might be elm when I looked at it. Iv'e been working with a lot of elm lately.

Thanks for all of the kind comments. I am getting to like this elm, other than the odor that is - and I'm even getting used to that, sort of :). I really find myself drawn to hollow forms, especially the southwest variety, maybe because lived in New Mexico for a while. I know I will be doing a bunch more of them.

Beautiful work, Dan. I see you posted this at 3AM which speaks volumes about the excitement we get from turning and sharing things. I like the form as is(sans finial), and that finish is spectacular.
