I can hardly believe the last time I posted a pen on SMC was June '09! I do lurk a lot though.
A friend of mine sent me a slab of Manitoba Maple Burl in a trade for some pickguard. I have no idea what he did with the pickguard, but here's what I did with his burl.

This pen is known as a Flat Top American in Canada. It's a ballpoint.

This is a Baron Rollerball pen.

This is a Sedona Rollerball pen.

Each pen was finished with 6 coats of Med. CA (spritzed btwn coats with CA accelerator) with the lathe running @ approx. 900 rpm. Each pen was then gently sanded with 600 grit with the grain of the wood. Another 6 coats of Med. CA was applied (same spritzing with CA accelerator).

Then wet mm'd (dish detergent added to the water) from 1500 grit to 4000 grit. All pens were then buffed with Formax Buffing Compound (.6 micron) and a layer of Carnuba Wax.
