my wife likes the nice hand made soaps but it is hard to find soap dishes anymore. we wanted ones that separated the soap from the water and they were about 20 each. so I figured out using these square flower pot trays and some ipe. I wanted weight so they would stay in place. these trays are nice as they have a raised part on the bottom that keeps the wood from sitting in water. I wanted to test the ipe in a nasty environment. if it fails it is easy to replace with plastic. These were drawn in aspire.
these are a simple create shape from vectors and 2d for all the hollow parts.

Steve,

That's a great idea, the ones with oval holes would be better, because a small piece of soap could fall into the gaps unless you close the gaps on you other styles.

Nice designs. I also like the oval one the best. Thanks for posting!

I did 1/2" gaps but yes it could fall through.
not sure if this is something that would sell but it would not hurt to try. I can't go too small as a 5/32" bit is about as small as practical to cut the ipe.

I like them and (as a girl, of course) don't think they're silly at all!

I like those soaps too. Makes the bathroom smell good. I want to see how the ipe does. I was thinking of purpleheart too but that would look bad with green.

How cool are these?! Thanks for sharing. I love them. I'm guessing you could sell a lot of them. Maybe even do a package with some soaps.
