I've been trying to remember/find a TV series - maybe Masterpiece Theater - about a group of British (and I believe, Aussie) women captured by the Japanese in Singapore or Malaysia. I am NOT thinking about A Town Like Alice. Rather, I think it was called something like Tenko, or it may have been Raffles (although in my dimmness, Raffles may have been the hotel in which the women were staying when captured).

Does this series ring a bell with anyone? I haven't been able to find anything on google.

Thanks,

Archie

Often ignored by history is the story of the women prisoners of war taken captive during World War Two. Sixty seven Army nurses and sixteen Navy nurses spent three years as prisoners of the Japanese. Many were captured when Corregidor fell in 1942 and were subsequently transported to the Santo Tomas Internment camp in Manila, in the Philippines. Santo Tomas was not liberated until February of 1945. Five Navy nurses were captured on Guam and interned in a military prison in Japan.

Well, Ken...I'm feeling a bit foolish/sheepish here :o. Not sure why I couldn't come up with it. That's exactly the series I've been trying to remember, although I certainly don't remember it being that long. Thanks a million,

Archie

Lee,

That's interesting info and it got me thinking...Over the years I've seen quite a bit of information/programing about Allied women prisoners, but very little about US women POWs. That's a shame. I think I'll do a little digging and see if I can come up with some reading on the topic.
