This is spalted gum I rough turned last November. It measures 8-1/2" X 3-1/2" with 5/16" walls. Finish is BLO and bees wax. I have not buffed it yet. Thanks for looking.

Great looking form for the bowl, Eugene. That Gum has some crazy patterning to it. Also like the finish, I think it's the perfect finish for spalted wood.

Very nice. I'm not usually a foot fan, but it really works with this form. Lovely wood, and a nice, soft finish.

Great spalt Eugene and a great shape to show it off! I'm a big fan of recessed feet on bowls, but you made this one work well...makes it "take-off". Finish really lets the wood show off. Very well done!.

This bowl could function as an art piece or a utilitarian piece - very nice form. And, the wood...well, it is just plain awesome!

Thanks for all the kind words. We cut that tree in December of 08. I turned several bowls in the winter and spring before it spalted. In fall of 09 I was surprised to see what it looked like. I like it better spalted, it is just a bit more difficult to work with.
Greg, it is Sweet Gum. It was really wet when we cut it. I had to stop and wash my face shield half way on each of the large bowls I rough turned.
Thanks again for the kind words and for looking.
