This is box elder about 10"x9". It is a crotch and is finished with clear WOP. The lid/finial is walnut. Comments welcome.

I am liking this one Fred...........simple lines on the finial and the crotch grain giving a mirror image of heartwood.......great finish as well. Very nice indeed! Pretty piece for sure!

Very good shape on the HF. I like the finish of this piece, it is glossy without looking plastic. The lower part of lid/finial seems a little heavy to me but this is definitely a keeper.

Nice job on this one! I like the finial/lid concept. I guess that makes it a box? Form and finish are 1st rate. Thanks for posting.

I really like that mirror image of the crotch, that really makes this unique. Although the finial is heavier on the bottom than we might be used to, I think it looks good. Definately a keeper!

What a great orientation Fred! Finial base looks a bit thick. Finish is immaculate. That'll look great on the bookshelf!

Fred, this piece is really unique! Great job on grain alignment and using the matching crotch wood - hope those piths don't do funny things on you. Very nice concept on the finial, too.

Great job Fred. That is the first hf I have seen with that grain orientation. Makes for a very eyecatching piece!

I think you got the crotch centered vey well and the finial works very nicely. I really like the shinny finish so my opinion in that department really can't count. Good Job!!

I like the form a lot, and it works great with the wood. I guess I may be in the minority, but I would prefer a piece with a large top opening to go "topless", as, for me, the finial has by necessity to be large and too dominant, especially in a dark wood with light form. The finial itself is well turned though.
