View Full Version : Leveling mounts for my Nova DVR stand?

I'm trying to locate some leveling mounts for my cast iron legs that came with my Nova DVR. The legs have what Technitool calls "Jack Bolts" already in a threaded hole on the bottom, but they are just short hex bolts, and are just too short for leveling my lathe. Would a longer set of bolts work to level the lathe, or will I need to support the hex end of the bolt with a wide base as a receiver? I went looking online for leveling mounts, but there are way to many options to consider without being able to see them first hand.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

consider getting longer bolts of the same size and thread count.

and they might be metric.

Thanks Allan. I'll try out some longer bolts and see if the lathe starts to rock once I start roughing out.

I'll have to take a thread count Steve. They look imperial, but I don't know for sure.

Just take one of the ones you're replacing with you. You can match thread to thread with the replacements. Lot easier than measuring, especially when it comes to metric.

They are metric. You might also think about bolting the legs to the floor like I did with my DVR. Be sure to Locktite the levelling bolts in place once you get the machine properly set up, lest they get loose. DAMHIKT.

I don’t know if the dvr has the same feet as the fame which comes with the 1624 or not.
On my 1624 there is a round base which accepts a ball at the end of the bolt. If yours are the same I would use some scrap hardwood and turn the number your need. You can make some thicker than others if necessary. Maybe 4" diameter with a recess for the Nova round base and then screw the base to the wood riser.
I plan on doing that (sometime I will get around to it) to add about 2" to the height of my lathe.

I did a little research at Teknatool and it seems your legs are made to bolt to the floor.
They listed (part #5) as a M12 X 30 bolt. I don’t know the best place to buy them but this found this…. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:liC7tWEdlkQJ:www.boschrexroth.com/country_units/america/united_states/sub_websites/brus_dcl/Trends_and_Topics/GoTo_Products/mt/floor/index.jsp+leveling+feet+machinery+M12+X+30&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&source=www.google.com
Or TinyURL if the above does not work

They do list a swivel foot with an M12 X 30 so I am sure others also sell them.
Or the feet for the tube steel base for the 1624 may fit. The folks at Teknatool supports should know.

Will do.

I'm not sure I want to bolt the lathe to my garage floor. We plan on building a house in the very near future, so I'm not sure the next owners will appreciate holes in the floor. :D

That was what I was thinking. I'll research your links below Michael. Thank you for the input. I appreciate it.

Here are few links from a google search for…...leveling feet machinery metric.

I only looked up the price for one and it was about $13 for 3,000 pound rating.
I would get the type with the two holes for mounting to a riser if needed, or you can drill your own holes.

I've been looking on levelingmounts.com and grainger, along with another manufacturers website, and thanks to your detective work, I have narrowed down my levelers to the polyMount levelers with a 102mm base. Now it's just to find a site that will let me order as a lowly consumer and with or without a stud. The studs that come with the 102mm base are around 4 inches long, so I would need to cut them down. Either will work.

Thanks for helping me Michael.

Which would you buy? With stud, or without?

If I buy one without, I could buy plain metric rod and make my own length. Changing the length of the levelers if needed in the future. With a stud, they will be ready to use. Hmmmmmm.

I picked up the largest M12 base they had :

Thanks for everyones help.

I just need to pick up some M12 threaded rod, and i'm set.

If you could find bolts threaded to the head could you insert them from the top side and still adjust them? May be easier than cutting threaded rod. I always have a horrible time getting the cut ends to thread on properly.

Superior idea. I was going to clean up the ends with a tap and die set, but your idea is much simpler. I'll use this method if I have enough clearance. The legs angle in and over the tapped hole at approximately 3 inches.
