View Full Version : Painted Wood

I remodeled my porch last spring and in the process took down 4 box columns about 10' tall. Each column resulted in 4 boards about 7" wide that appear to be redwood although I can't be sure. (The house was built in 1929) Anyway, I want to build a table for the porch using these boards and I like the crackled finish of the old paint and think it would be a nice feature to leave. My question after all that rambling is:  Should I plan on ruining a saw blade cutting painted wood or will this be OK?

Thanks,

Ron Robinson

I'd use a cheap combination blade, and plan on having it re-sharpened after you are done.

It will probably dull it some, but won't actually hurt it. You may need a resharpening afterwards though.

I'm sure there is lots of lead paint. A big consideration if food or kids are involved

Good point Tyler, thanks. Maybe I'll rethink that idea.
